Cosmo privacy policy
Effective date: 3 October 2026
Cosmo is a space-exploration app for children aged about 6 to 12. This policy explains what happens to information when you use it. The short answer is that Cosmo does not collect any personal information.
The short version, for kids
- Cosmo doesn't ask who you are. You don't need an account to play.
- Everything you do in Cosmo, like your badges, quiz scores and the planets you've visited, stays on your phone or tablet. We can't see it.
- There are no ads in Cosmo, and nothing to buy.
- Some buttons, like opening a website or sending us an email, are only for grown-ups. Cosmo asks a grown-up's question first.
- If you have a question about this, ask a parent or another grown-up you trust.

What we don't collect
Cosmo does not collect, store on any server, sell or share personal information. In particular:
- No accounts or sign-up. We never ask for a name, email address, age, photo or location.
- No advertising. Cosmo shows no ads and contains no advertising software.
- No in-app purchases. There's nothing to buy inside the app.
- No analytics or tracking. Cosmo contains no analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools, and it doesn't use your device's advertising identifier.
- No servers. Cosmo doesn't send information about you or your device to us or to anyone else.
Information that stays on your device
To remember your progress, Cosmo saves the following only on your device, in the app's private storage:
- Progress: worlds visited, facts read, bookmarked facts, quiz scores, daily streak, badges, experience points and level.
- Settings: language, theme, text size, units, sound, music and whether daily fact reminders are on.
- Nickname: if you choose to type one in Settings. It's optional and is only shown inside the app.
This information never leaves your device through Cosmo, and we can't see it.
- To delete it: use Settings → Reset Progress, or delete the app.
- Device backups: if you back up your device (for example with iCloud or Google), the backup may include Cosmo's saved progress. Those backups are handled by Apple or Google under your account's terms. We have no access to them.
Daily fact reminders
Cosmo can show one space fact a day as a notification. Reminders are off until you turn them on, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings. They're scheduled on your device by the app itself. No notification service or server is involved, and no information is sent anywhere.
Device permissions
| Permission | Why Cosmo uses it |
|---|---|
| Notifications | To show the daily fact reminder, only if you turn it on. |
| Run at start-up (Android) | To keep the daily reminder scheduled after the device restarts. |
| Vibration (Android) | For the reminder notification. |
| Internet (Android) | The 3D planet viewer uses a built-in web view, which Android only allows with this permission. The 3D models are loaded from inside the app. Cosmo doesn't send or receive any information over the internet. |
Cosmo doesn't use the camera, microphone, contacts, photos or location.
Grown-ups-only features
The following features are behind a parental gate: a maths question written in words, which a grown-up has to answer before continuing.
Reporting a bug
Settings → Report a Bug opens the email app on your device with a message ready to send. The message contains:
- the description you type, and
- technical details to help us fix the problem: the Cosmo version, device model, operating system version, app language, text size and theme.
You can read and change the message before sending it. Nothing is sent unless you press send in your email app. If you do email us, we receive your email address and whatever is in the message. We use it only to look into the problem and reply to you. We don't add you to any mailing list and we don't share your email with anyone.
We delete bug-report emails once the problem has been dealt with, and no later than 12 months after we receive them. Emails are kept in our email account, which is provided by Google (Gmail).
Links to websites
Cosmo links to the sources of its facts (such as NASA and Wikipedia) and to the authors of its 3D models. These links open in your web browser and leave Cosmo. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and we're not responsible for them.
Sharing
Facts and quiz scores have a share button. It opens your device's own share menu with a short piece of text, such as the fact itself or "I got 4/5 correct on my space quiz!". It doesn't include your nickname or any other personal information. You choose where it goes (for example a message to a family member), and Cosmo doesn't see or store what you share.
Children's privacy
Cosmo is made for children, and we've designed it so that it doesn't need to collect any personal information from them. Because the app collects no personal information, it doesn't ask for parental consent to collect any. This covers laws that protect children's data, such as the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
If we ever find out that we've received personal information from a child without a parent's or guardian's involvement, for example in an email, we'll delete it.
Your rights
The only personal information we may hold is an email you've sent us. Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and North Macedonia's Law on Personal Data Protection, you can ask us:
- to see what we hold,
- to correct it, or
- to delete it.
Email [email protected] and we'll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to a data protection authority, such as North Macedonia's Personal Data Protection Agency or the authority in your own country.
Security
Information Cosmo saves on your device is kept in the app's private storage, which your device's operating system protects from other apps.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Cosmo handles information, we'll update this policy and the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, for example if Cosmo ever needed to collect any information, we'll say so in the app's release notes before it happens and ask for a parent's consent where the law requires it.
